Since 2011, the shool is committed for a countinuing improvement in order to make its functioning better et optimise its missions. Thanks to the commitment and adherence to the staff project, the search for quality was granted with success in February 2014 when Polytech Clermont-Ferrand obtained by BCS Certification the ISO 9001:2008 certification for all of the courses provided.
Interview with Christian Larroche, Firector of Polytech Clermont-Ferrand
Why did you initiate a quality approach inside of your school ? What were your goals ?
Polytech Clermont-Ferrand, as all the engineering schools, has always worked for a continuing improvement. Since 2011, we decided to give structure to this approach – according to the ISO 9001 certification – in order to organise its functioning through processes. The objective we want to attain is to clarify its functioning and improve the satisfaction of all parties involved.
More precisely, this approach is intented to professionalize the collaborations with the actors of the social and economic world, but also to encourage the success of every student, their quick professional integration, their talent to conduct projects and then ability to evolve within the labor world.
It is important to notice that a significant number of shools belonging to the Polytech network (13 engineering schools, 14 000 students engineers, 60 000 graduated) follows the same path.
To create such an approach, you need to gather the whole community.
How was it perceived by the staff teams and students ?
The values of respect, empowerment, communication and listening have been at the heart of the project. Progressively shared by the community, they allowed everyone to work in a climate and of confidence, conducive to exchange and participation, in order to be awarded the ISO 9001 certification.
To set up such an approach you need time, energy, and sometimes it is necessary to review certain methods of functioning. But beyond these elements, the most important consequence of this work was the awareness of everybody’s role within the structure. Here, it is about a (re)discovery which is probably the best guarantee of progression for the future.
While the time to draw up the first results is coming, what are the capital gains the certification brought ? What are the perspectives for the future ?
The creation of the the quality system of management conducted Polytech Clermont-Ferrand to revisit its methods of exchanges with the partners, especially companies. A more rigorous and objective follow-up of the activities in conjuction with the various partnerships (instruction, agreements, internship monitoring) is currently being deployed and the preleiminary results are already noticeable.
